After getting involved in two lengthy off-topic discussions about which Sonic games are good and which are not and why [link1] [link2], I think that topic should be contained within it's own thread.
oh god, what have I done
Now I can already see where this could go, so a warning for everyone, keep the following in mind whenever you discuss Sonic games:
The "Sonic"-franchise has altered drastically throughout the years, with SEGA trying to please as many different targetting audiences as possible.
So while some fans want this, other fans want that, and not all Sonic fans like the same aspects of the series, which can lead to awkward clashes between the most obsessive fans of each fraction. Some people hate a game, while others love it.
Heck, I count Sonic 2006 as being one of my personal Top 3 Sonic games.
I knew of the glitches in advance, and I still bought an Xbox 360 for ~300€ ONLY so I could play this game.
Of course I know many people will shudder in disbelief reading this trying to convince me of the opposite.
But, being a fan, my reasons for liking a certain game don't have to be purely rational, so I suppose in the end it comes down to "you have your opinions, I have mine".
You can share your trail of thought - but always keep in mind, others may not share your train of thought.
Or their train might even be heading in the entirely opposite direction then yours.

Now if you excuse me, I have to fight my "holy war" of defending my favourite Sonic games and stuff.

Wonder how much hate I'd get for saying SA2 isn't as great a game as people let on it is to me? !
NOOO! BLASPHEMY!! >: [
Nah, but really, clash of the Sonic worlds once more - you like the games I don't like as much, while I like the games you don't like as much.
For me, Sonic Adventure 2 surely won't be the best game ever made, but surely, it will forever undeniably remain one of the top 3 Sonic games ever made, if not THE best.
It's the first Sonic game I played (not counting the Game Gear ones I so quickly forgot about), and oh boy, did it blow away my mind.
You must know I only had an N64 before that, and there weren't many Final-Fantasy-quality RPGs on that one, nor rendered CGI cutscenes -
So when I picked up SA2, it had the best plot I had ever seen in a game up to that point, breathtaking cutscenes for the time (totally send a chill down my spine when Eggman blew up the moon!), and a sad ending that can only be described as a "Final Fantasy 7-moment". ;__;
Sonic Heroes however, was a big disappointment. The story was ... ... ... not very interesting, and the ending basically spoiled itself in the opening intro clip. *DOH!*
The gameplay may have been nice, can't judge that, but it is only a part of a bigger picture here.
Made me realize I shouldn't trust videogame magazine's opinions when it comes to Sonic games, and Sonic 2006 and Shadow the Hedgehog proved me right with that decision.
I can see how other people can like it for enjoying different aspects of the game, but for me, story is just simply THE selling point of any Sonic game.
It's simply where I came into the Sonic franchise in the first place with SA2.
Sonic Adventure 1 ... well, looking back at it now, I realize it actually has an interesting story to it -, the problem is, I probably should have played the game 5 years earlier instead of just the Game Cube re-release then.
The thing is, the whole presentation didn't appeal to me.
It wasn't about the graphics if you think that. It was about the strange, rythmic and sometimes very erratic movements the characters made ... missing cue music at important in-game cutscenes ... the game just made a bad first impression on me right from the start : /
As such, while SA2 always made me anticipate what would be happening next, once I finished the current level, I didn't have any expectations with SA1.
Which is too bad since the game has something to tell. Perhaps the style of presentation just was outdated by the time I got to play it. : /

I consider Sonic Adventure to be one of my favorite games of all time. I had so many fond memories playing the game and the impression just stuck.
Same here, except for me, it applies to SA2 instead of SA1.
Proves once again, that when it comes to fandom, everything is relative to one's own personal views, and you cannot necessarily apply your views to that of other people.
Though I'm not really sure if by responding back on your posts with my own oppinion doesn't make me a hypocrit. ^_^;
... while it [Sonic Heroes] had its mistakes, what game doesn't have a few bugs?
Heh, funny you say that. Sonic 2006 is one of my favourite Sonic-games! XD
Huh? She wasn't always a stalker?
Well, I guess I'm unable to argue here, since for me, SA2 was basically the first time I got to know the character, thus, SA2 sorta defined how I see the character.
I mean, in SA1, wasn't she also instantly distracted with whatever she was doing when she saw Sonic? ultra-the-hedgehog.deviantart.com/art/Amy-Rose-Adventure-1-DX-157227684?q=gallery%3AUltra-the-Hedgehog+sort%3Atime&qo=34
Knuckles' stages were way too big and the Emerald detector was worse than the last game

The car racing really felt tacked on.
I guess Knuckles' gameplay (and rap theme songs) were the reason why I never liked Knuckles as much as I do other members of the Sonic cast.
Yeah, don't know what they were thinking with the car chase either, entirely pointless and badly done.
Sure, it might be a good game, but I wouldn't call it the best game (same for Sonic Unleashed, which was both over rated and under rated. Story book games were also average at best for me).
hm. Again, would personally actually count Sonic Unleashed up there in the top 3 with SA2.
Black Knight however is probably - while, still being a Sonic game, thus being able to at least enjoy it a bit - the worst Sonic game I've played, from my point of view.
Did get a few chuckles when I noticed EvilDoc was not kidding with their jokes, the game really has some of those corny lines like
"This flower... why does it even bother to blossom when it knows it will inevitably die a few days later bla bla bla".
I gave it a chance, but no. Glad I waited till the price dropped to a low point.
I haven't even gotten around to finish the game off! And it's a Sonic game! In 3D! I always finish those! *NOES*
All in all, I'll be playing Sonic Colours from tomorrow....
Huh! I wasn't even aware it was coming out this week! ;
Well, I just recently bought a few other games, I guess I should be finishing those first before I buy the next one. ^^;
