@ Roger: Well... I kinda completelly ignore the morals, since the show's more about the characters encountering humorous situations / acting humorous along the ride. *shrug* Also, I have to say, we have a SERIOUS lack of adult-ish cartoons/anime in Germany (it's all for kids, bleh), so (almost) every cartoon we DO get is sacret. pitchblackdragon brough up Family Guy. Well, meh ... For me it's just too much "look, this situation is awkward or just makes no sense"-jokes that just aren't funny at all. :/ If you want to see an example of that, taken to the pure extreme, check out the "Seth Mc Farlen" channel on youtube (sponsored by burger king) What we have there are, for instance, a scottsman shouting complaints and swearing at a tv (note: the Seth Mc Farleen channel is probably not ment for a younger audience), while the complaints themselves are neither funny nor even logical or ducks sitting on the couch, watching TV. OMOMGOGMOGM, it's ducks ... and they do ... stuff that ducks normally never would do! OMG!11Ah well. At least the ducks are complaining about the movie being unfunny, so it's self-aware of it being unfunny. The only thing funny about that are the intro bits, and sadly, they re-use those for other vids instead of adding new ones. Heh, you could say, that advertisement campain infact lost them a watcher, lol. But to do it justice, the show isn't ALL about scenes like that, so I in fact do watch it occasionally when zapping through.

Then, I'll suggest you my current favorite "more adult" cartoon of the moment: The Venure Bros! It's uses ol' shows like Johnny Quest and such as template, parodies our pop culture from the 80s/90s and uses Superhero/Supervillains tropes for fun Give it a try! (and the animation gets really good over the 4 seasons it had until now) And it's one of the last few good hand drawn animated shows around (only the pilot was done in flash)

Oh yeah, family guy sucks. I liked the first season with the more evil world conquering Stewy, or the occasionally funny gag, like when during a "family is soo happy together" montage, Peter is putting down a red picknick blanket and is then immediatly hit by a bull.
But most of the time they just...reference stuff. Like the scene where Brian was playing on a Pacman arcade machine. Hahaha, get it? Because Pacman is like.. you know.. I like pacman, so the joke is funny!
Even their parodies are usually dumb. I remember a Indiana Jones Temple of Doom joke where Indy, Short round and Willie Scot are in the deathtrap, when short round shouts "you're only in the movie because you're boning the director!" at Willie Scott.
Uhhh.. what has that to do with the deathtrap, and yes, the actress who played Willie Scott did marry the director after the movie, but...why is that a joke?
The show seems nothing more then a list of random trivia, urban legends and pop culture references thrown clumsely in a script.
But hey, so many people love the show that it got 3 spin off shows, so I guess I'm just missing the point or something.
Haven't seen Venure Bros yet. Pop culture reference jokes again? uhhh... Is it Robot chicken "use pop culture to put it in a diffrent context or combine it with other elements to give it a ironic double meaning" kind of Pop culture jokes ,or just your average "Look it's Paris hilton! haha, now she's hit by a comet" "jokes"?

People find refrences funny because when they get the refrence they feel like there "in" on the joke, whiich makes them feel good.

Then, I'll suggest you my current favorite "more adult" cartoon of the moment: The Venure Bros! I've seen some of the clips on adultswim's official youtube channel - I liked it! Though I usually don't buy stuff on DVDs, and it's probably gonna take forever if not infinite amounts of time until the show gets broadcasted here. Though now that I think about it, I believe adultswim was streaming some of the show's episodes on their website... yeah! how could I forget that! ; Gonna check back for that site sometime soon.

The show doesn't exist here (in Switzerland) Doesn't mean I won't buy imported DVDs and follow the episodes! @ rogerfromimp> not references as in Family Guy/Robot Chicken. Just discret references once in a while (there was a Greenysh Spider-man-like hero in the last episode, played by Nathan Fillion! ) It doesn't depend on our pop culture knowledge, if that's what you're asking. It follows its actual plots & universe. Just try watching season 1 first, because the later seasons will be based on the show's own history and it will be harder to understand stuff in the current episodes if not~
