Some of my details may be wrong but this is whats going on as I understand it:
In July 2011 Tokyo will ban depictions promoting illegal or immoral sexual activity, which is pretty much most of the anime and manga out there.
... why do they just not ban the really explicit stuff instead of banning all of it? Its moronic really. 8/ Movies have sexual references and violence in them too, are they going to ban them?
I hear this is happening because the guy in charge dosent like anime and manga (probably just rumour).
isnt anime and manga their biggest industry? Won't they lose a tonne of money because of this?
It wont last.

Does this mean people like Mr.Oda behind One Piece is gonna have reduce the size of all his females boobies or become an underground artist and publish things on the sly? : B But wow this is the STUPIDEST thing I've ever heard from Japan, I mean in world wide culture Manga and Anime are their most popular feature! And also how are they gonna impose this 'restriction' to big companies like Shonen Jump who I'm pretty sure pay biog hefty tax fee's at it is with all the cash their making. I'm not the biggest anime/maga fan but imposing a law like this will dissencourage talented artist and story writers into exploring that field of entertainment and we'll have all anime's written by American fan boys who rich Rock Star Dad's pay for their projects when they clearly rip off other productions : B *cough* Gene Simmons*cough* www.p2pnet.net/story/36342

Thought they were referring to sexual conduct in the stories or underaged kids taking place in such things or being over sexualised or just doing titillating activities. Believe me, I know there're plenty of that going on! If it's just that kinda stuff, then I have no qualms with it. But if it's everything else, then I've no idea what to say. I do know they have been tonning things down for years over there. Used to be before the millenium you could show a woman's breasts in a shonen magazine without it causing an uproar. But now even that is barely allowed. (And yes, I say this after reading plenty of Cutey Honey and other Go Nagai comics and what not yesterday. DON'T JUDGE ME!!!)

The issue here is that Japan is open to all kinds of sexualities. Hetero, homo, bi, pedo, a, anything. But with this thing being passed, I could imagine a massive crime increase. Honestly I don't think it'll change much. I mean how often does something instantly just STOP as soon as a law is passed? There are still drug lords despite drugs being illegal (here). I don't think it'll do much. It's too much of a monopoly to disappear over night.

Zody: Good lord what a little bastard XD he honestly thought people wouldn't figure it out?
Frobman: Oh yeah if its just the stuff like kiddy porn and the like they're banning then thats good, that stuff is unacceptable. 8/ But yeah if they're banning everything with the slightest sexual reference thats just wrong.
venator: Thats what i thought when i read about it, they cant stop people from creating that stuff, it'll just go underground and on the internet.
